Appointments at BADA, Bishop and Miller and Elstob & Elstob – an overview of the art and antiques sector
The British Association of Antique Dealers
The British Antique Dealers‘ Association (BADA) has appointed Ashley Gallant (pictured above) as the new CEO. Gallant was previously at Asian art dealer Sydney L Moss where she spent eight years, most recently as business development manager and financial controller.

Bishop and miller
Bishop & Miller is expanding to Norfolk this fall with a new salesroom and a new team. Suffolk Auction House opened in 2015 in Stowmarket and is creating a new 3,000 square foot auction house and offices near Holt.
As part of the expansion, it has taken on a number of new staff, including Kevin Lines, previously from Keys in Aylsham, as an image specialist to work closely with Steven Stockton who is now Head of Development commercial.
Lauren Gardner joins as Jewelry Specialist and Lucy Woodley Jones joins as Prints and Multiples Specialist. Three administrative staff have been hired for the new site. Read more about hiring and expansion in ATG issue 2551.
Elstob & Elstob
Image specialist Rohan McCulloch has joined auction house Ripon Elstob & Elstob to lead its Images and Sculpture division. He previously worked at auction houses such as Lyon & Turnbull, Sotheby’s and Bonhams.
Elstob & Elstob was founded by David Elstob. Elstob said, “We have focused our efforts on finding the best experts in the field, to include a wide range of categories. I am proud to welcome him and look forward to his valuable input, guidance and input.
The submission deadline for the first Pictures & Sculpture auction is July 20 and will be held on August 10.
McTear’s in Glasgow hired John Youngman as gallery coordinator and auctioneer. He previously worked at Great Western Auctions in Glasgow and Thomas R Callan in Ayr. McTear’s also announced details of a new auction – A Cabinet of Curiosities which will take place on August 10th. The sale includes a private collection of natural history from the Scottish Highlands.
The founder of Toovey’s Auctioneers has been appointed second lieutenant for West Sussex. Rupert Toovey, who founded the auction house in Washington’s West Sussex village in 1995, said he was “humbled and delighted” by the appointment.
He has lived and worked in the area for his entire adult life and this appointment is recognition of his distinguished service to the community and to the county. Read more about the appointment in ATG issue 2550.
Bonhams has promoted Lucia Tro Santafe to the newly created position of Senior Specialist for Impressionist and Modern Art, Post-War and Contemporary Art and Prints and Multiples in Spain. Based in Bonhams’ Madrid office, she will oversee the Spanish market for 20th and 21st century art and handle consignments for sales in Paris, London and New York.
She will continue to lead the Picassomania sales in London and will co-lead the sale of the Jean Cocteau and L’Atelier Madeline-Jolly One-Person Collection: An Unfailing Friendship at Bonhams Paris on September 29.
Ralph Taylor, Global Director of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Bonhams, said: “Lucia has been at the heart of our exponential growth over the past few years, particularly in relation to Picasso and Jean Cocteau. His knowledge and passion will be fundamental as we continue to strengthen our position in Spain. »
