A guest at the BBC Antiques Roadshow was heartbroken – after learning that his precious work of art was in fact ‘worthless’.

The guest of the Sunday evening show remained red after the exchange with the expert.

The artwork he took on the show was actually a Banksy mural.

But expert Rupert Maas also chided him a bit for taking the graffiti from its original location.

The guest said: “I was living in Brighton in the late 90s, early 2000s, and I was walking along Brighton seafront when I saw him on the Lido.

“It looked cowardly, I went, I basically pulled it off.

“I know what it is, I know what year it was, it was around 2004. I’m just trying to get an assessment of it.

“Brighton was quite touched by Banksy when he was there at the time.”

The expert fired back: “I think the message is if you see a piece of graffiti art, leave it to the public.

“I’m not lecturing you, I’m just saying, but without that certificate it’s just really hard to sell.”

He added: “With that it could be worth £ 20,000. Without it you’re nowhere. I’m sorry.”
