THE Antique District alone has pledged to support the provincial government’s efforts to showcase natural wonders as part of its tourist appeal this year.
Antique Representative-elect Antonio Agapito Legarda, in his speech at the grand opening at EBJ Freedom Park in San Jose, Antique on Monday, June 27, said tourism is an important economic driver.
Legarda was sworn in under Senator-elect Loren Legarda, her older sister.
“Antiquity has many natural wonders and we will promote them for our tourism industry,” the congressman said.
He said promoting the province’s tourism should also boost local small and medium-sized businesses in Antique.
Data from the Western Visayas Department of Tourism showed that Antique received 108,220 foreign and domestic visitors in 2018.
In March 2022, Senator Legarda launched a documentary on the marine treasures of Antique and it would air on the Discovery Channel. (Jun Aguirre/SunStar Philippines)
