Local students graduated from HWS | New

GENEVA – After persevering in an unprecedented academic year, 514 undergraduate students and 10 master’s candidates graduated in an in-person ceremony held on May 16 on the college campus Hobart and William Smith.
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden LHD ’21 delivered the opening remarks. In her remarks, she said the “once in a lifetime” challenges of the pandemic have been a dramatic test of resilience for this year’s graduates, as well as a “catalyst for thinking about the nature of work, which is. important in life and how to help everyone enter the digital future with fairness and dignity.
Local students who have graduated from HWS:
• Maxwell Harris from Geneva obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Society. Harris graduated Summa Cum Laude.
• Phinn Oswald of Rushville graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Oswald is a Magna Cum Laude graduate.
• Genevieve Pietrusinski from Dresden graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio. Pietrusinski graduated Magna Cum Laude.
• Alexandria Knipper of Clifton Springs graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Society. Knipper graduated Cum Laude.
• Sadie Mapstone from Geneva obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History. Mapstone graduated Summa Cum Laude and studied abroad in Galway, Ireland while at HWS.
• Mallory Burrall from Geneva holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. Burrall graduated Summa Cum Laude and studied abroad in Auckland, New Zealand while at HWS.
• Chloe Louthan-Green from Naples graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Louthan-Green graduated Magna Cum Laude and studied abroad in Queensland, Australia while at HWS.
• Noah Ball from Naples graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Society. Ball is a Magna Cum Laude graduate and studied abroad in Norwich, England while at HWS.
• Michael DeVaney from Geneva holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics.
• Michael Baroody from Geneva holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics and mathematics. Baroody graduated Magna Cum Laude.
• Connor Parrow of Waterloo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics. Parrow graduated Summa Cum Laude and studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark while at HWS.
• Quinn Eighmey from Geneva obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio and Art History. Eighmey graduated Cum Laude and studied abroad in Rome while at HWS.
• Daniel Lerch of Waterloo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture Studies and Art Studio. Lerch studied abroad in Rome while at HWS.
The colleges have awarded honorary degrees to three individuals who have improved local, national and global communities through their spirit of enduring service: Hayden; Mary Beer, Ontario County Public Health Director; and Boys & Girls Club of Geneva and Executive Director of the Geneva Community Center Chris Lavin ’81.
